SWEETWATER BREWERY TO  BRING ITS AWARD-WINNING  CRAFT BEERS TO KENTUCKY THIS JULY
The South’s second largest craft brewer announces distribution coming to Lexington, Louisville to follow

ATlANTA (June 2013)- SweetWater Brewing Company is excited to announce its expansion into Kentucky later this July. The Atlanta-based craft brewery, known for its aggressive style of happy, unpasteurized, and incredibly fresh ales, will kick off its arrival in Lexington in July with its legendary SweetWater 420 on draft at select bars, pubs and restaurants throughout the area.

Following its recent $19 million brewery expansion in 2012 which quadrupled brewing capacity, SweetWater announced plans in early 2013 to flow into three new states: Kentucky, Louisiana and Virginia. Although SweetWater’s current distribution offerings are limited to Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina, the brewery ranks among the top 25 craft breweries in the nation by sales volume, according to the Brewer’s Association.

Earlier this year, SweetWater filled in the last remaining Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina cities to round out its comprehensive distribution in each state. The expansion into Kentucky will be followed by Louisiana this August and Virginia next quarter, bringing SweetWater’s availability to a total of nine U.S. states across the Southeast. This distribution development marks the first time the brewery has opened sales to a new state in five years.

Although decisions on distribution partners for the markets are still being confirmed, Lexington locals can look forward to spotting the brewery’s iconic rainbow trout tap handles throughout the area in upcoming weeks. Following the launch of 420 on draft, SweetWater promises more details to come on rolling out additional award-winning brews from its lip smacking lineup at local package, retail and grocery stores around town.

“In the 16 years that we’ve been brewing beer, we’ve never been able to keep up with the demand,” said Freddy Bensch, Founder and Big Kahuna of SweetWater Brewing Company. “However, with the installation of our new 250-barrel brewhouse and the addition of several 1,000-barrel fermentation tanks, we will finally be able to make enough beer to share with our thirsty friends in Kentucky!”
